A friend recently sent me the link to this video of a bizarre toy…

Isn’t that a beautiful toy?! I’m sure the makers thought it would be a cute thing… a little fluffy kitty hiding in a milk churn aww… but even ignoring the stripped bare one – the twinkly music, the weird long tongue, strange mouth and staring eyes, the mechanical way it moves! Gah! This led to me searching for other similar beauties. Enjoy!

Toy makers… what were you thinking?

Léa Padovani & Sébastien Kieffer of Pool have given the humble white plastic garden chair design a very cool update with their ‘Souviens toi que tu vas mourir’ (Remember that you will die) chair.

I’m a big fan of Helen Dardik‘s illustration – I especially love her colour combinations! Here’s a lovely new fabric design from her called Beautiful Weirdos featuring those gorgeous colours and some quirky little characters!

Are you a fan of cake? Are you also a fan of robots? Then these are for you!

Found these funky little silicone cake moulds while browsing the Fred & Friends site – a cool little shop with some great quirky products. I’m also a fan of the Ninjabread Man cookie cutters. I’m think I’m going to stop browsing that shop now… there are far too many things that I really don’t need but now want!

Something very strange has happened to Hello Kitty’s chum with the chocolate-coloured nose…

Chococat

Chococat - Before

One of my favourite artists Junko Mizuno seems to have been conducting some kind of nuclear experiment on poor little Chococat and given him a somewhat mutated makeover!

Junkocat Figure for Kidrobot

Junkocat is the third in a series of Sanrio characters to be reinterpreted by different artists – Frank Kozik and Tara McPherson have already added their spin to Hello Kitty.

Be sure to check out her gallery of work for more beautifully bittersweet images. Brandi has also written and illustrated a lovely hardcover book called ‘So Good for Little Bunnies’ which can be bought for just $16 from her store.

Excellent set of Posters For Girls by illustrator Amanda Visell that aim to show girls that they can do anything they want. And hooray that there isn’t an orange skinned, fake boobed one called ‘I can get in the tabloids’!

I think ‘I can save myself’ is my favourite because that horse is brilliant!
The posters are available to buy individually or as a set of 4 from Switcheroo.

There’s quite a lot of poo-based characters around these days! I guess it could be the ultimate in Adoribbleness to make cute turds!

Here’s a lovely big pile of poo for you to look at!

Dookie-Poo
A strangely angular poo character created by Manny Galán. Dookie-Poo lives in Pooville with his friends… he’s not too bright and seems to like saying ‘Blargh!’ Dookie and his friends have spawned a whole range of merchandise including vinyl toys, plushes, flash games, tshirts & animated videos (hosted on PooTube of course!)

Pee and Poo
The opening animation with the brown rainbow cracks me up on the Pee and Poo website! This Swedish brand features the Pee and Poo characters (or Kiss & Bajs in their native tongue… surely the Swedish for pee isn’t Kiss?!) and has been designed for kids to encourage potty training it seems.

I think the little kids pants on the product page are funny / weird with the pee character on the front and the poo character on the back!

These poos get a special mention because I really love the crisp graphic style. Whoever thought that putting poop all over your walls could look so pretty! Vinyl Rainbow Poops decals available here.

Doggy Poo
Possibly one of the most bizarre poo related cute things I’ve ever seen is this Korean stop motion animation about a dog poo. Words fail me so you’ll have to just watch for yourself! (The link above takes you to the 1st of 4 parts so you can watch the whole thing if you want to)

I’ve never drawn a cute poo character… and I don’t think I will. There’s plenty smeared all over the place anyway!
